Dear Prospective Family,

Habitat for Humanity works to empower families by giving them a hand up, not a hand out, towards building and owning their own home. Homes are sold at no-profit and families are given interest-free loans. House mortgage payments are "recycled" into a Fund for Humanity and are used to build more homes.

Wexford Habitat has worked with families and community volunteers to build 18 houses over the past 19 years for Wexford County families living in substandard housing, and every year the number of families joining in partnership with Wexford Habitat increases.

Criteria for Family Selection includes: need for adequate housing, willingness to participate as a partner with Wexford Habitat, and ability to pay for a Habitat home. The Family Selection Process cycles once or twice each year, fill out an Application or contact Scott Powell, Executive Director, for more information.

Each partner family completes a homebuyer orientation and contributes a minimum of 300 hours of labor (Sweat Equity) toward their house and other Habitat houses.

Wexford Habitat for Humanity supports Equal Opportunity Housing and does not discriminate because of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, family status, marital status, age, national origin or source of income.

Maggie Miller and her daughter, Jordon, will be one of the new families. The groundbreaking for their home was October 1, 2008 and construction will begin immediately.
